LAURA W. PIERCE
I have been rug hooking since I joined our local ATHA guild, Wine Country Rug
Hookers, 7 years ago. I started teaching in April 2003 and started teacher training with
the National Guild of Pearl K McGown Hookrafters in June 2003. My mother, Emma
Webber, has been making rugs all of my life, and I knew someday, I would too. I am
self-taught, design my own patterns, and enjoy the artistic play of color, design and texture
in rug making. I am teaching at the Petaluma Park & Recreation department, and am
pursuing other Sonoma County venues where I can teach. I am available for individual
instruction and offer dye classes in my home studio.

Learn about this forgivable fiber art!

PAM BARTLETT / RED HORSE RUGS

In 1983 Pam first learned rug hooking with Hallie Hall and was so inspired, wanted to be a teacher also. In 1993 she opened her own studio, followed by becoming a McGown certified teacher in 2001. Pam began teaching rug hooking for the League of NH Craftsmen, and became a juried member in 2004. She is now on the juring committee for rug hooking. She has taught at rug schools in the U.S. and Canada, most recently at the ATHA biennial in Louisville, KY. Pam has twice been awarded the Master Artist/Apprenticeship grant for Traditional Rug Hooking from the NH State Council on the Arts, where she apprenticed two students for one year each. Her piece "Once there were many" was a finalist in the American Folk Art Museum's, Icons of America.

Pam loves the challenge of designing, dyeing and turning wool into art.

Pam teaches all skill levels, finding all styles interesting and exciting. She enjoys helping her students see the rug through the wool. Pam carries wool and supplies offering day & evening classes September through May.

  MARY ANNE WISE
Using techniques common to visual artists but adapted for rug hooking, Mary Anne will teach students to design rugs full of vitality, authenticity and originality. She views herself as a guide helping students "mine" their life experiences to access their intuitive artistry. No drawing skills are necessary. Classes are illustrated with daily slide lectures. Mary Anne believes that imagination, personal inventiveness and a lack of artistic inhibition are the factor that comprise the best hooked rugs. She also lectures on contemporary rug hooking and tufting.
