Hooking with nylons? How

I have just dyed millions of white "waste nylons" from SaraLee hoiery for a kids project. We cant use them all. How would I cut/use them to hook a rug for bathroom use? Do you hook them as loopers or cut them down the length of the leg? Is Ritz a bad choice for the dye? What kind of backing? Be specific. Help!
