I hooked a rug for my bathroom 2 years ago. It is as new as it was when I made it. I used a cotton backing, acrylic for the hooking and latexed the backing after I finished the work. I can put it in the washing machine for cleaning. But you must take care of the borders. If you want to wash it in the machine it is better to make crocheted or whipped edges.
