: Hi:
: Have you seen the bluenose rugs on ebay? There is a Bluenose pattern, and then a hooked rug of the Bluenose, and one of a maple sugaring off scene. I wonder if these patterns are still available? I really like the sugaring one and would like to hook it.

Hi...I, too, have seen the Bluenose mats on e-Bay. As a Canadian from New Brunswick, I grew up listening to stories about the Bluenose. This afternoon I was in Joan Moshimers Studio in Kennebunkport, Maine ( I live in the next town, Wells, Maine), and there was a huge catalog of Garrett patterns, which include both the Bluenose and "Sugaring Off" ( isn't that the greatest pattern??!!) I just LOVE it! and have made it in miniature for my dollhouse...anyway, it is presently on exhibti at the Museum of Civilisation in Quebec, and if you go to their website, you can see it there. Oh, I forgot, the catalogue about the Bluenose and many other Canadian mats was published by Spruce Top Studio. As I have heard it, the pattern is now in the public domain. The story goes that it was the cover of a Readers Digest issue many, many years ago( the '30's)., and was made into a rug pattern...anyway, to get to the end of my rather long winded post...if you find out if the pattern is commercially available I would love to know about it as I would love to hook it as well. I have the pattern which I printed off the Museums website, but of course it is tiny!Good Luck!
