St. Nicholas
Hooked by Joan Slingerland
Designed by Jane Flynn
I am a wife and a mother of three grown daughters. I have been rughooking for 45 years and I am an accredited McGown teacher. I have a small studio and give lessons.
My other Interests are quilting, crocheting, knitting and sewing, but rug hooking is my first love.
I have recently started hooking 3-D. My first project was an old fashioned tea cup in a pattern called High Tea. I made the front of the tea cup on another piece of monks cloth and attached it to original pattern with two rows of hooking and finished it normally. Now I can put a real tea bag in it.
My next project was a 24" dummyboard of Jane Flynn's St. Nicholas. The beard and mustache are hooked high, clipped and then combed leaving just the long threads of the wool. The fur was done the same.
The bag, pocket and bag were hooked on separate monks cloth and attached with two or three rows of hooking to the original pattern and then finished normally. I wittled a cane and then slipped it through the glove. I filled the bag with small toys.
