February 24, 1997 :"Original Rug Finishing Techniques"
After moving from Missouri to Florida, I have noticed a difference in finishing off rug edges. While in Missouri, I saw mostly biased cut wool border type edges, but now in Florida, I notice most of the gals use wool yarn and cording. What is the "Original" method used to bind a rug and what is the method that is mostly used today? Thanks!

February 10, 1997 : History &
Cleaning /
Restoration of Antique Rug
As an avid do-it-yourselfer, a recent home renovation uncovered a hand hooked rug geometrical
in design labeled by Spinning Wheel, made in China. Actually the piece is in decent shape, but
filthy. Any information about its history, and method of cleaning / restoration is helpful. I
have spot checked for color fastness with white vinegar and club soda, but have avoided
saturation. Thanks!

February 09, 1997 :
Fabric Protection Spray damage to hooked piece
Clare Reading hooked a piece in white, and because of the location this piece will rest in,
decided to protect it by spraying it with a scotch-guard-like spray to protect it. She tested
the wool and all was well until she sprayed the piece and the "permanent" black magic marker
the pattern was drawn in bled through. Now several gray areas that were not meant to be on the
piece are.
Before she does anything else, has anyone run into this same problem, and if so, what have you
done to correct it.
She has thought of dabbing bleach with a Q-tip, one loop ata a time and have also considered
dabbing it with white magic marker. Help!

Japanese Imari
Porcelain
Hi, my name is Connie Ashley and I'm a rug hooker from Massachusetts. I was wondering if any
of you would know of references or sources of Japanese Imari Porcelain. I'd like to do an
imari rug designed by Cam/Syl (the rug designers). I already have a pattern with this design
and I'm specifically looking for color photos or articles written on the subject.
Thanks for any information.
