Instructors

All instructors will teach beginners to experienced students.




Nancy C. Blood
Owega, NY
Nancy will teach tapestry (fine) hooking and refined wide cuts.  Using an artist's approach in orientals, art noveau, pictorials, stained glass and all realistic shading.  She is also an expert in medieval tapestries. 


Dianne Kelly
Hiram, OH
Dianne will teach a true wide cut, 6 cut and up.  Using different techniques to achieve a country primitive with character and color.  All fabrics such as sweater wool and cotton, also textured and over-dyed wool.  She will help design your hooked piece if you desire. 

Activities and Information

Classrooms have ergonomic adjustable chairs, overhead lighting, continuous refreshments and gourmet coffee all day long at break station.

Excellent accommodations all on one level, with one handicapped room available.

Meals will be served buffet style.

Outdoor patio seating is available if desired. 

A Wine and Cheese social hour will be served on Friday before dinner.  

All hotel rooms have private baths, TV's, phones and computer facilities.

Come hook in an attractive facility ideally suited for comfortable rug hooking and instructions.

This in an open school.  All patterns will be taught. An exhibit of  hooked pieces will be held at the Thomas Milsop Center (Classroom Building) on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM, open free to the public. 

Bring Finished Hooked Pieces for display. Attach name and maker, pattern and designer.

There will be a store available for the purchase of supplies and patterns. Any special supplies can be ordered in advance and will be available when you arrive.

Bring your hooking equipment. Also bring a light and extension cord for hooking in the evening in your room or in the hotel lobby.

There will be a dyeing demonstration held in the amphitheater Saturday evening if you wish to attend.

 


Sessions


Sessions will begin Friday Oct. 10, 2003 at 9:00AM to 4:30PM.

Wine & Cheese Hour 1 hour before dinner.

Saturday 9:00AM - Lunch - 1:00PM - 4:30PM

Dyeing session Saturday evening if you wish to attend.

Sunday 9:00AM - Lunch - Wrap-up after lunch.

 Directions and Location


12 miles North of Wheeling, WV

Directions from the Northeast:
Take 79 South to I-70, or East I-70 to Washington, PA.; take Exit 6 - Jefferson Ave. - turn right off exit ramp and then turn right at 2nd traffic light - to Route 844 West - (drive approximately 1/4 mile and merge left onto Rt. 844W).  Stay on Rt. 844W for approximately 18 miles (to West Virginia State Line). Note golf course on left; proceed for 500 yards and turn left onto WV Route 88 South.  Continue on Rt. 88S for 5 miles to intersection of Routes 67 and 88.  Turn right at intersection of Routes 67 and 88.  Turn right at intersection and then left onto Rt. 88S.  You will see the Bethany Leadership Center sign at the junction of Rt. 88S.  Go for a short distance, the entrance to the Center will be on your right. 

Directions from the Northwest:
Take Route 2 South from Weirton/Steubenville through Wellsburg.  At the south end of Wellsburg, turn left onto Route 67 East.  Follow Route 67 to Route 88S, go right.  The parking lot entrance is on your right. 

From Wheeling, WV:
Exit I-70 at the Oglebay Park/West Liberty State College/Bethany College/Route 88 North exit.  Follow the signs to Route 88N, turn left onto Route 88N, go about 17 miles (through Oglebay Park and the town of West Liberty).  About 3 miles after West Liberty, you will see the Bethany Leadership Center sign on your left at the entrance of the parking lot.


Registration


Registration will be held on Friday, October 10th at 9:00AM.


Registration Fee

A deposit of $75.00 for all students must accompany registration form.  Balance of $75.00 must be paid by September 15, 2003.  Make check or money order in U.S. Funds payable to Shirley M. Engel.  Please send deposit and balance to:

Complete Meeting Package (CMP):
Rate is $100.00 for double occupancy per person $125.00 single per day.  Including excellent overnight hotel accommodations.  Three meals, meeting room, refreshments and wine & cheese social hour plus 6% WV sales tax & 15% service charge. 

Day Meeting Package (DMP):
Those not staying at the hotel but using the conference center have lunch, snacks, coffee and wine & cheese social hour will be charged $40.00 per day plus a 15% service charge & 6% WV sales tax. 


Please detach registration form, complete and submit with proper deposit to Shirley Engel. No refunds will be honored after August 15, 2003.  Registration refunds prior to August 15, 2003 will be in the amount of $50.00.
