Introduction

Hook in a splendid mountain setting atop the last ridge of the Alleghenies. View the sunset on the horizon from the wrap around porch of the Mt. Summit Inn. Enjoy swimming in the Olympic size outdoor pool or new indoor pool. Tennis courts and equipment are available at no extra charge. Other privileges on the resort estate include: golf, game room, shuffleboard, archery, a putting green, exercise room and whirlpool. Classes are held in the spacious ballroom.

The scenic and historic area in the Laurel Highlands features: Falling Waters & Kentuck Knob designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Fort Necessity, Laurel Caverns, Nemocolin Castle and Ohiopyle State Park. White water rafting, kayaking, fishing and bicycling are popular along the Youghiogheny River.


Accommodations

Please make Room and Board reservations directly with Mt. Summit Resort Inn. Call toll free 1-800-433-8594. Please inform the hotel that you are attending the Rug School. Rooms are set aside for the school. 

A $50.00 deposit is required on rooms. Room rates (subject to change) are *$91.50/day plus tax per person double occupancy, which includes breakfast, lunch & dinner, Sunday evening to lunch on Friday. Single occupancy room rates are $120.00/day plus tax (spouses are welcome - rooms will accommodate 4 persons, if desired.) Easy access rooms on the lobby floor are available upon request. Check out time is 12:00 noon on Friday.

 If sharing a room, please give your roommate's name when making your reservations.  If you do not have a roommate, but would like one, make your reservation for double occupancy and note on your registration form that you would like a roommate assigned to you.

Instructors


All teachers will teach beginners to experienced students.

Nancy Blood
Owega, NY 
Will teach tapestry (fine) hooking and refined wide cuts. Using an artist's approach in orientals, art Nouveau, pictorials, stained glass and all  realistic shading.  Nancy is also an expert in medieval tapestries.

Pris Butler 
Oakwood, GA
Is a pattern designer &and will cover designing and color theory of rugs.  A hands on class, stressing lettering and adapting an existing pattern for your needs.  Pris will supply tools needed. 


Cindi Gay
 Pemberville, OH
Will teach pictorials using multiple cuts and is comfortable with all fine tapestry shading with swatches and wide cut shading using only 2 and 3 shades.  She welcomes rugs in progress.  A two time winner of rugs in the "Celebration of Hand Hooked Rugs" books.  Also an author of a rug hooking book. 


Debbie Monroe
Metamora, MI
Will teach Primitive and Folk Art rug hooking.  She works in new, recycled and overdyed wool.  Design your own pattern.  Debbie will help you or use a designer pattern.  She will talk about antique patterns she brings to class.  "Come learn & have fun, too".  Debbie is also a landscape designer.


Dona Hamilton
Will teach beginners on Monday a.m. 


Activities and Information

A Wine and Cheese party will be held on the porch (weather permitting) June 13, 2004 at 4:30 p.m. and Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.

An exhibit of rugs and hooked pieces will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2003 , from 12:00 Noon to 7:00 P.M., open and free to the public. Don't forget to bring your finished hooked pieces for the rug exhibit. Attach name and maker of pattern to the piece.

There will be a store available for the purchase of supplies and patterns. Any special supplies can be ordered in advance and will be available when you arrive.

Bring your hooking equipment. Also bring a light and extension cord for hooking in the classroom or your room.

Sessions will begin on Monday at 9:00 a.m. and will end at 3:30 p.m., with one hour for lunch.

Beginners will be taught basics on Monday morning. After lunch they will go into their respective class with the instructor named on their registration form.

One large hooked piece (rug) or 2 small pieces will be taught by a teacher.


Meals

Breakfast - Monday - Friday
Lunch - Monday - Friday
Dinner - Sunday - Thursday.
Coffee in lobby for walkers and early risers.

Registration will be held on Sunday, June 13, 2004.  Wine & Cheese Party will be held at 4:30 p.m. and Dinner will be served at 5:30 P.M. 


Registration Fee


Resident Students ~ Instruction fee is $180.00 for Resident Students. $90.00 (nonrefundable deposit) must accompany your registration.  Balance of $90.00 due on May 15, 2004. This includes instruction, gratuities, tax, classroom space and refreshments.   


Commuter Students ~Instruction fee is $235.50 for Commuter Students.  $90.00 (nonrefundable deposit) must accompany your registration.  Balance of $90.00 plus $55.50* for lunch, is due May 15, 2004.  This includes instruction, lunches, gratuities, tax, classroom space and refreshments.
